RFSL is working with it's current project "Regnbågsfamiljer i väntan" (Translation: Rainbow families in waiting) to aid LGBTQ-persons during pregnancy and in early parenthood, as well as to create a greater possibility of a more inclusive pregnancy care. The project includes, among other things, parent groups, lectures and informative films. A lot of people can experience a difficulty gaining an overview of the process and afterwards testify that it could be unexpectedly hard to go through. The parent groups quickly fill up and attending lectures is not possible for everyone. Films are also limited in how much content they can cover. Would their project benefit from yet another medium that clarifies the process as a whole?
We gave ourselves the brief to portray the process both practically and emotionally through a story driven game. The plot is based on interviews with couples who have personally been through the process and testimonies from queer parent groups online. In order to widen the audience we made the game in English.
In the game Possible Baby you get to follow a lesbian couple from the first time that they meet until they concieve a child through assisted reproductive technology. You get to name the two main characters at the beginning of the game and choose your path to form a family. The game portrays real challenges and situations and gives you concrete information regarding what the processes is like.
In order to portray our idea we chose to make two video demos. This is the shorter one.
